When Lewis Hamilton was 10 years old, he approached Mclaren team principal Ron Dennis and told him that one day he was going to race for him and Mclaren. Soon his stellar performance in the karting competitions then got him a place in the Mclaren driver development support programme and he was also given a contract as well as an F1 seat in the future.

Having won the GP2 series in 2006 with just one attempt, Lewis then went on to impress with his results in his debut Formula 1 season. He finished 11 out of 14 races on podium, and proved to be a force to reckon with. His rivalry with teammate Fernando is very tense and resulted in several controversial events during the 2007 season, such as the Hungarian GP qualifying session and the first corner incident for the Belgian GP when Fernando Alonso did a wide swerve in an attempt to force Lewis out of the track.

He looked to have the world championship in the bag when a couple of judgement mistakes from the McLaren pit walls were said to have cost the rookie his victory. While he entered the Brazilian Grand Prix, the last race of 2007 as the leader in the Drivers' Championship, the championship was his to lose as he only had to finish 5th or above just to grab the title during his debut year. Unfortunately, some gear box problem and misfortune for the Brit handed the title to Ferrari's Kimi Räikkonen.
