The son of 3-time world champion Nelson Piquet, Nelson Angelo Piquet (also known as Nelson Piquet Jr, or Nelsinho Piquet) was the test driver for Renault in 2007. In the season 2008, he was promoted to be the teammate of Fernando Alonso (who is freshly back from a bad stint with McLaren).

Said to be chosen because Heikki Kovalainen would be too strong an opponent to be Fernando Alonso's supportive teammate, Nelson claimed to be in Formula 1 due to merit and not due to namesake.
