Robert Kubica started off his career with BMW Sauber as a test driver, and in the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, he replaced Jacques Villeneuve who was suffering from headaches from an earlier accident. Jacques Villeneuve's departure from the team after that race - in which Kubica, despite coming in 7th, was disqualified for using an underweight car - gave the Polish the chance to prove his worth as a race driver for the BMW Sauber team.
Robert suffered a serious crash during the Canadian Grand Prix, when his car was launched into the air at a speed of 186.43 mph. Thankfully, despite earlier fears for his life when he was unconscious after the crash, he suffered from no serious injury and came back during the French Grand Prix and came in 4th.
Kubica is the first ever Polish driver in Formula 1.
