Timo Glock made his appearance for Formula 1 back in 2004, when during the Canadian Grand Prix, he stood in for Giorgio Pantano and finished 7th after the disqualification of the Williams and Toyota cars for the Jordan Grand Prix team. He was appointed to be BMW Sauber's second test driver during the 2007 season. Prior to that, he was in the Champ Car series and also the GP2 series, where he is the champion in 2007.

Because he signed the Toyota contract while he was still contracted as BMW's test driver, the case has to be ruled by the Contract Recognition Board, which gave Timo the go-ahead to race for Toyota in 2008, after he has been released by BMW from his testing duties in November 2007.
