The European GP this weekend is held in the city of Valencia, Spain. Spanish driver Fernando Alonso urges for the drivers to have a one minute silence in remembrance of the 153 victims of the Spanair crash at Barajas Airport in Madrid before this weekend's race.

The two-time world champion, whose mood has been affected by the unfortunate disaster, said, "What happened sours this weekend for me.

"It changes the weekend for us (the fans) and for me. What happened was a tragedy.

"All the Spanish people are shocked, and I am too. It's probably the saddest approach to a weekend I've had.

"We will see tomorrow if we manage to slowly get into the weekend.

"Obviously life continues, but it's now a different weekend for me compared to what it should be.

"As a mark of respect I will wear a black armband, and I will talk with the drivers to see if we can do something.

"Maybe a one minute's silence in the pit lane. I hope the drivers would all agree to that."

A one-minute silence will be a very symbolic mark of respect for the country hosting the European Grand Prix, as well as the legion of Spanish fans who would turn up to watch the race amidst the three days of national mourning.
