Fernando Alonso made his Renault F1 car looked promising when he topped the timesheet during a rainy Practice 2 for the Grand Prix of Belgium this weekend. As predicted, there will be rainfall and it certainly brought a lot of actions on the track during the second practice session.

Sebastien Bourdais took his Toro Rosso car for an off-track excursion first when he understeered at Les Combes and headed back to the garage to check if he collected any damage along the way. Mark Webber was less lucky and got stuck in the gravel after he clipped the barriers. The inconsistency of the rainfall on the track which pans over a big area proved to be a challenge for many drivers, and as the rain got heavier, more drivers went off-track, including 3-time champion of the Belgian GP Kimi Räikkönen, who desperately need a good weekend to re-ignite his championship hopes. He damaged the car's rear end and the team was unable to repair the car in time to continue the practice session. Force India's Giancarlo Fisichella caused the session to be red-flagged momentarily when he sent his car right into the barriers, while Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr spun and hit the barriers as well.

Ferrari will be heartened to see an on-form Felipe Massa among the top 3 in the final practice session on Friday, while the two McLarens of Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton were consistent and quiet behind the Ferrari. Adrian Sutil hauled his Force India car to an impressive 8th fastest, even ahead of Jarno Trulli's Toyota.
