Felipe Massa set the fastest timing before he got into a huge shunt after sliding on the oil left behind by Fernando Alonso's Renault R28.

In the first practice session of the British GP, Ferrari's Felipe Massa took the lead and looked set to be improving his timing when he spun on the oil leaked by Fernando Alonso's Renault. That sent him flying into the barriers and although there was no injury to the driver, the Ferrari car had its rear end so badly damaged that Massa could possibly be sitting out Practice 2 later.

The Brazilian was followed by the two McLarens of Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton, while his Ferrari teammate Kimi Räikkönen just set the 4th fastest timing.
