But the Residents Don't Want the Australian GP

Australian GP - Aye or nay, mate?
A few days after the informal confirmation that the Australian Grand Prix will be extended till 2015, more news about the Australian GP's future has been released - and serious enough to put the possibility of the rumoured extension in doubt.

While it was mentioned in the previous report that the Australian GP is facing financial losses, news that the residents in Melbourne are actually fed up of putting up with the noise generated whenever the F1 circus reaches the town.

Councillor Janet Cribbes, mayor of the City of Port Philip, Melbourne council, did not mince her words in voicing her disapproval on behalf of the residents.

"After 14 years, residents have had more than enough," she said.

"Why should they have to suffer the noise and the inconvenience of a car race in a park for a race whose public price tag blew out to A$41.3million £19.94million) last year?"

"It's simply not fair that this event is exempt from the normal legislative protections empowering Victoria Police and the Environmental Protection Authority to take action on noise and other infringements on residential amenity.

"The race does not benefit Victoria as a whole. It simply doesn't stack up on economic, social or environmental grounds."

With yet another ground of opposition to the already uncertain future of the Australian Grand Prix, it would be interesting to see if the rumours will be made true.
