| Can Lewis Hamilton Win the Title? |
![]() Copyright Reuters/Stefano Rellandini Fernando Alonso doesn't think so, but Pedro de la Rosa thinks the British driver can win the 2008 Drivers' Championship - if he continues to improve. Maybe it was a case of sour-grape, but McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton's ex-teammate Fernando Alonso doesn't think that the young driver has what it takes to win the Drivers' Championship as he had twice in 2005 and 2006 seasons. It is no secret that the two part ways unhappily at the end of 2007 after a season of troubled partnership. Even after Hamilton's victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, which saw the Ferrari team losing after taking the top 2 spots in qualifying, Alonso does not think his ex-teammate is a favourite for the title. "I see the favourites still as the two Ferraris, by a long way. Do I think Hamilton can do it? No," Alonso said. However, fellow Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa, who is with McLaren as a test-driver, feels differently from his compatriot.
"Hamilton is very confident and if he fulfills
his promise of scoring 15 consecutive podiums, he may win the title.
"We have won two races out of six and we have been closer to
Ferrari on the tracks where they beat us by much in 2007, but we must
keep on improving the car because the Championship is very long. We
already lost it by one point last year." de la Rosa said during the opening of Madrid's motor show.
