Kubica-Alonso Partnership for BMW?

Canadian Grand Prix 08 winner Robert Kubica has openly declared his admiration - and acceptance of two-time world champion as his teammate if BMW were to sign the Spaniard.

Current BMW driver Nick Heidfeld has been underperforming this season until the recent second place in Canadian Grand Prix, in which Robert Kubica won his first ever F1 race and now leads the Drivers' Championship. Heidfeld, though has a contract up till 2009, has been under scrutiny for his poor performance and could be on his way out if Fernando Alonso moves over to BMW after his temporary contract with Renault is over.

Renault has not been performing this season either, with Fernando Alonso expressing his disappointment in this season especially after a strategic mistake cost him points at the Canadian GP. When asked if he will be switching team, he said, "It's a difficult decision, and I have a strong opinion about it."

The decision could be dependent on how the Renault team perform for the rest of the season, with Alonso expressing hope that in France and Britain the car would be better.

"Maybe at those tracks it will be good, so we can carry on developing this car.

"If it's not good, maybe the season will already be over so it's time to think about next year,"he said.

Robert Kubica, on the other hand, has welcomed Fernando Alonso with open arms if he were to become his teammate. The pair gets along very well and often spend the evenings during race weekends out to dinner or playing cards.

Asked by the Spanish newspaper El Pais if he would welcome Alonso to BMW, Kubica replied: "I would have no problem with that. I get along with him very well."

"I do not know what the future holds, but if we do both drive for BMW, we would have a lot of fun," he said.

"We appreciate each other as drivers but also as people. You know with him that when he says something, it is what he really thinks," Kubica added.

"He is not someone who thinks too much about his image, or says something for marketing or just to look good."
