Melbourne Extends to 2015, While Silverstone Loses British GP

Australian GP organisers have successfully extended the contract till 2015, but will be starting the race at a later time of 5.00pm, while Silverstone loses its hosting rights of the British GP to Donington Park.

As reported earlier, the Australian GP deal with the Melbourne authorities have been extended to 2015. The proposed timing is a midway agreement between the reluctance of the Australian GP organisers to have a night race and Bernie Ecclestone's request to have a timing that is friendlier to the Europeean based audience.

For the Silverstone venue, it will host the last British GP next season before the British GP moves to Donington's Park from 2010 onwards. Donington Park last hosted the British GP in 1993, and is currently a venue for the MotoGP Championship. The new contract will run for 10 years, and the organisers have already pledged 100 million pounds for a 5-year investment plan.
