BMW has announced the drivers' lineup for next season. Both Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica will be driving for Dr. Mario Theissen's team, and so will Christian Klien, who is retained as the test and reserve driver.

This announcement comes after weeks of speculations on the possibility of Fernando Alonso moving over to BMW and a rift between Robert Kubica and the team.

"“We see Nick and Robert as a strong driver pairing and Christian as an experienced test driver," Dr. Mario Theissen said. "We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team’s fourth year.

Nick Heidfeld will now heave a sigh of relief after a season of uncertainty stemming from his performance issues.

"I'm very pleased about this announcement and about the confidence that the team have shown in me," said Heidfeld.

"I've always said that I was happy to stay with BMW Sauber because we've managed to achieve what we set out to do at this stage and I really hope that we will be battling it out for the title itself next year.

"There have been times this season when neither I nor the team could honestly say that we were satisfied with the way things were going, but we have always pulled together and come through."

Rumours were strong regarding the possibility of Fernando Alonso coming over to join good friend Robert Kubica. However, with this announcement, Alonso would have one less option for his 2009 career. Honda, Toro Rosso or staying at Renault.
